BOWDOIN — A 2-year-old Wales boy was struck and killed by a car on Main Street Saturday evening while trying to retrieve a ball that had bounced across the road, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened just before 8 p.m. near 1020 Main St., where Jordan L’Italien was under adult supervision, according to a news release.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy broke free from a relative who had tried to stop him from running into the road, according to the release.
The car was driven by Stephen Leppanen, 37, of 413 Main St., Lewiston. No charges have been filed against him, according to a county dispatcher.
The case is being investigated by local, county and state police.
