AMHERST, Mass. – Allie Frazier, Ashley Gott, Jessica Potter and Maegan Johnson had three hits apiece as the University of New England avoided elimination from the NCAA Division III softball regionals with an 11-8 win Friday afternoon against Husson.

The Nor’easters (27-13) broke the game open early, scoring seven runs in the second inning with the help of three Husson errors.

UNE finished with 17 hits as it advanced to another elimination game Saturday against SUNY Cortland or Keene State.

Both UNE and Husson lost their tournament openers earlier in the day. Husson (33-13), the No. 8 seed, was beaten 6-4 by top-seeded Amherst (35-4), and second-seeded UNE suffered a 10-0 mercy-rule loss to second-seeded SUNY Plattsburgh. Ashley Gott had two of the Nor’easters four hits.

KEUKA 5, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Danielle Gravel smacked an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to give Keuka (23-12) a win over St. Joseph’s (33-9) in an elimination game at the NCAA regionals.

St. Joseph’s produced 15 hits but needed a two-run rally in the seventh to force extra innings. Danielle Shufelt singled with one out, Emily Leverone kept the Monks alive with a two-out double, and Heather Tripp and Lindsay Moore followed with RBI singles to tie the game at 4-4.

Kim Jordan’s two-run homer in the fifth inning erased a 2-0 deficit for the Monks.
