BOSTON – Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz will miss today’s start against the Atlanta Braves because of an illness.
Boston Manager Bobby Valentine said Buchholz (8-2) would likely be skipped and not pushed back. Aaron Cook will be activated from the disabled list after one rehab start and will fill in for Buchholz.

• Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford was hitless in three at-bats, walked twice and scored a run in a rehabilitation start, his first game action in more than eight months.
Recovering from injuries to his wrist and elbow, Crawford was the designated hitter in a Gulf Coast League game between the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.
Crawford is expected to play in the outfield this week. He’ll be on a rehabilitation assignment for about three weeks.
• The Red Sox are close to trading Kevin Youkilis, according to several published reports.
The White Sox and Dodgers are among the teams interested in acquiring the infielder.
BREWERS: Milwaukee placed starting pitcher Shaun Marcum on the 15-day disabled list because of elbow soreness and activated first baseman Travis Ishikawa.
The Marcum move is retroactive to June 15, and he is expected to miss just one more start.
METS: Ike Davis was removed from the lineup against the Yankees because of possible food poisoning.
ATHLETICS: Oakland called up right-hander Tyson Ross to start Saturday night against San Francisco.
The A’s finally placed right-hander Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right oblique muscle, a move retroactive to Monday.
Oakland also recalled infielder Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Sacramento to take the place of Collin Cowgill, who went on the 15-day DL a day after he sprained his left ankle.
ORIOLES: Baltimore released 49-year-old Jamie Moyer, parting ways with the crafty left-hander at his request.
Moyer signed a minor-league contract with Baltimore on June 6, with the stipulation that he would make three starts for Triple-A Norfolk, and after that the Orioles had to promote him or grant his release. He went 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA over 16 innings at Norfolk.
DIAMONDBACKS: Arizona placed left-hander Joe Saunders on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left elbow, a move that could open the way for top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer to make his major league debut.
Bauer, a right-hander who was the fifth overall pick in the 2011 draft, is a combined 11-1 with a 2.19 ERA with Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno.
