Portland is expected to get a mix of rain, sleet and snow Monday as a powerful storm that pummeled the Mid-Atlantic with heavy snow begins to weaken.

Mike Cempa, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, said the precipitation should begin by sunrise.

He said on the coast the rain may turn to sleet by late morning or early afternoon, then turn back to rain.

“We are going to get a little bit of everything, but by Tuesday everything should clear out,” Cempa said.

He said the rest of the workweek, especially Wednesday and Thursday, should be nice, but cold with temperatures in the 20s.
