I don’t understand why it isn’t possible to change Thanksgiving to October. Year after year, with rare exception, travel becomes hazardous.
The weather is generally lousy or worse with flight delays and cancellations; accidents due to snowstorms, icing.
When I have written about this to members of Congress in the past, I have received the excuse – tradition. Tradition didn’t suffer too much when Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays, Memorial Day, etc., were moved to Mondays or when Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day.
I submit that there would fewer travel hassles, safer roads and less anxiety about the holiday if Turkey Day were changed to October!
So what if it would be too close to Halloween (a favorite excuse of merchants)?
