SANFORD — Gabrielle T. Corriveau, 86, of Sanford, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.

Gabri-elle was born in Mexico, Maine on March 10, 1928, to Antonio and Alice (Contois) Filion.

She grew up in Biddeford and Springvale, where she attended the local Catholic schools.

During her working life, she was employed at the Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt. She also baby-sat for people and worked in the Goodall Textile Mills in Sanford.

On May 28, 1949, she married Marcel Corriveau, and together they shared 52 years of marriage until his death in 2001. 

Gabrielle was a devout Catholic. She prayed the Rosary often and was a communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford.

She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and going bowling. She also enjoyed going dancing when she was a younger woman. She had been a devoted wife and daughter, lovingly caring for both her mother and her mother-in-law when they became elderly. She will be remembered as a kind and caring woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Gabrielle was preceded in death by: her husband, Marcel J. Corriveau; and a brother, Roger Fillion.

Surviving are: two brothers, Robert Filion and his wife Sharon of East Haven, Conn. and Gerard Fillion and his wife Gloria of Killingworth, Conn.; a special cousin, Monique Lemay of Springvale; and nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 22 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main St. in Springvale. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23 at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
