The Koch brothers hope to buy the U.S. Senate. Should they succeed, the tea party could end health care and Social Security. The election of Democrat Shenna Bellows to the Senate would challenge their effort.

When Bellows directed the Maine chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, she waged successful campaigns to protect voting rights, ensure marriage equality, protect against warrantless drone spying and ensure cellphone privacy. She is for renewable energy, protection of the environment, saving Social Security and reducing student college debt.

I’ve made calls to known Democrats to see how they intended to vote. Two out of five Democrats responded they were “leaning” toward voting for Collins. We could lose the Senate if they vote this way. Republicans call Collins a “Republican in name only,” but they will be more than willing to count her as a Republican if it means taking control of the Senate.
