YARMOUTH — A Portland man was charged Tuesday with commiting a 2012 burglary of the pharmacy at the Hannaford Bros. store on U.S. Route 1.

Police Lt. Dean Perry said Charles B. Gardner, 33, whose address was not disclosed, was charged with three Class C felonies for theft, burglary and aggravated criminal mischief in connection with the Dec. 19, 2012, burglary of the supermarket pharmacy.

Perry declined to provide more details, but police reported at the time of the burglary that the suspect entered the store through the roof around 7 a.m. and stole $5,000 worth of narcotics, using a trash can to carry the drugs out of the store.

The theft was the first of two in Yarmouth that week; the Rite-Aid on U.S. Route 1 was robbed of narcotics on Dec. 21, 2012. On Wednesday, Perry said the second robbery remains unsolved, but is not connected to the Hannaford Bros. burglary.
