I have just finished reading an editorial in the April 5 Maine Sunday Telegram (“Our View: Twomey’s toss an outrageous way to show disapproval”), and frankly, I am outraged and disappointed in your opinion.

I was not at the forum in Saco during which Joanne Twomey confronted the governor, so I only know about it what your newspaper reported. If the reports are factual, then I believe your statement that Ms. Twomey shut down the meeting is incorrect. Your published report is that the governor left the stage immediately after the confrontation. Shutting down the meeting seems to me to be the governor’s voluntary act. Perhaps he couldn’t stand the heat generated by Ms. Twomey.

Gov. LePage is a bully, and the only way to stop a bully is to confront him or her. Ms. Twomey may have overstepped the bounds of politeness toward the governor, but I applaud her for making the stand that she did.

Also in the Sunday paper, your columnist Michael Cuzzi (“LePage continues to threaten, but he does not inspire action”) enumerates several instances of LePage’s bullying tactics to get his way.

A week or so ago, Staff Writer Steve Mistler reported that the governor had invited journalists to send reluctant Republican legislators to his office so he could “rip ’em a new one” if they didn’t vote for his proposed tax reform package. Instead of deploring Ms. Twomey’s actions, you should be encouraging more citizens to stand up to the Bully in Blaine House.
