As a new citizen of Maine – my wife and I recently moved to Belfast – I am writing to let others know of my strong support for Elliotsville Plantation Inc.’s proposal to donate to the National Park Service land they own east of Baxter State Park for the creation of a national park and national recreation area.

By being designated as a national park, this land will be protected in perpetuity, preserving the area’s exceptional wildlife habitat and natural communities.

One of the reasons my wife and I chose to move to Maine was to be closer to its incomparable forests, rivers and coastline.

The creation of a national park and national recreation area on the donated lands will entice all Americans to come share in the beauty and serenity of northern Maine, while providing a much-needed and welcome stimulus to economy of the area.

I am hoping Maine’s congressional delegation shares this vision and will proactively support this initiative.
