I’m writing in reference to the article in the Source section of the Aug. 16 Maine Sunday Telegram titled “Green Plate Special: Waste less by relying on senses to tell when food is old.”
I totally agree with the author. Last summer, I visited my daughter and her family. One day her granddaughter decides to check out dates on crackers and boxes of dry cereal. She found some and promptly threw them away, and it was allowed.
I was quite surprised but didn’t say anything because I was a guest.
Crackers and some dry cereals can be crisped up in the oven. I always remember the old saying “Waste not, want not.”
