The Good Shepherd Food Bank and its Cooking Matters Maine program will be featured on the ABC show “The Chew” Thursday at 1 p.m.

Host Daphne Oz will be teaching a Cooking Matters class to teenagers at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center in Lewiston during the show.

Cooking Matters is a program that teaches children, teenagers and adults from low-income families how to plan, shop, prepare and cook healthful and nutritious meals on a budget. The free classes are usually taught by chefs and experts in nutrition. Participants are given groceries and recipes to take home so they can try their new skills out in their own kitchen.

Cooking Matters, part of the national No Kid Hungry campaign, is a partnership between Good Shepherd Food Bank and Maine SNAP-Ed.

“The Chew” has been described as “The View” for foodies. Hosts include Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Oz.
