Kids are always happy to help with an art project. So when the Friends of Deering Oaks needed help preparing the park for their first-ever Lantern Walk, they found dozens of kids who were happy to lend their hands Saturday.

The group collected 150 plastic bottles, cut them and washed them so they’d be ready for kids to create their works of art. The lanterns will have LED lights inserted and be hung in Deering Oaks for the Lantern Walk at 6 p.m. Sunday. The event is free but The Marshmallow Cart will be on hand with hot chocolate for sale – just in case any kids need a reward for their artful assistance.
