Chef Matt Ginn of Evo in Portland was crowned Maine Lobster Chef of the Year on Friday afternoon at Portland’s Ocean Gateway. The sold-out event was part of Harvest on the Harbor, the 8th annual food and wine festival hosted by the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors’ Bureau.

Ginn’s winning dish was Maine Lobster with Turkish Pasta and Local Beans. Evo, just four months old, is in the Hyatt-Old Port hotel.

Chef Stephen Richards of Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor, 2014 Maine Lobster Chef of the Year, was runner-up.

Sponsored by the Maine Lobster Marketing Collective, this year’s competition included 5 chefs, each of whom demonstrated the preparation of their dish live on stage: Josh Berry of Union in Portland’s Press Hotel; Isaac Aldrich of Pilot House at Sebasco Harbor Resort in Bath; and Nicholas Krunkkala of The Thistle Inn in Boothbay Harbor, in addition to Ginn and Richards.

Chef Kerry Altiero of Cafe Miranda in Rockland was the event’s emcee. Guest judges included Chef Larry Matthews of Back Bay Grill; Chef Steve Corry of Five Fifty-Five; Chef Harding Lee Smith of The Rooms; Virginia Wright, senior editor of Down East Magazine; and Linda Greenlaw Wessel, Maine captain and author.
