CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Attorneys for Volkswagen’s lone U.S. factory in Tennessee on Tuesday argued against efforts by maintenance workers, who make up 12 percent of blue-collar workers at the plant, to seek a union election.

The workers at the Chattanooga plant have petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to schedule a vote for them to be represented by the United Auto Workers for the purposes of collective bargaining.
