BIDDEFORD — Alicia Brown had 13 of her game-leading 19 points before intermission as the University of New England jumped to a 42-23 halftime lead and cruised past Wentworth 82-37 in a women’s basketball conference opener Wednesday at Biddeford.

The Nor’easters (4-1) held the Leopards (2-3, 0-1) to 26 percent shooting from the floor in the second half as they pulled away, outscoring their opponents 40-14 after the break.

Brown collected seven rebounds for UNE, Olivia Shaw had 12 points and seven rebounds and Sadie DiPierro added 12 points.

(1) UCONN 86, (23) DEPAUL 70: Breanna Stewart had 29 points and 12 rebounds and Morgan Tuck added 16 points as the visiting Huskies won their 42nd straight game.

The three-time defending national champion Huskies (5-0) have not lost since Nov. 17, 2014, an 88-86 loss to Stanford.

(3) NOTRE DAME 75, (10) OHIO STATE 72: Madison Cable hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 56 seconds left, then made a pair of free throws with 7 seconds remaining to clinch the win for the host Irish (7-0), who won despite missing two starters.

(4) BAYLOR 89, RICE 38: Khadijiah Cave had 19 points with 10 rebounds as host Baylor opened both halves with big runs.

(5) MARYLAND 82, (20) SYRACUSE 64: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 19 points and eight assists, leading host Maryland over Syracuse in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

MEN

(3) MICHIGAN STATE 71, (24) LOUISVILLE 67: Denzel Valentine had 25 points and Bryn Forbes scored a season-high 20 to help the Spartans (8-0) come back to win at East Lansing, Michigan.

WISCONSIN 66, (14) SYRACUSE 58: Nigel Hayes, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds, converted a three-point play to break a tie in overtime as the Badgers (5-3) won an upset at Syracuse, New York.

Ethan Happ led Wisconsin with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

(16) VANDERBILT 102, DETROIT 52: Wade Baldwin IV led seven Commodores in double figures with 20 points in a rout at Nashville, Tennessee.

COLBY 82, UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 68: Sam Wilson led four players in double figures with 17 points and also added eight rebounds as the Mules (4-1) handled the Owls (3-3) in a nonconference game at Waterville.

Chris Hudnut had 16 points for Colby, and Ryan Jann added 12 points and Patrick Stewart had 11.

Chase Vicaire was the top scorer for the Owls with 17 points, and Brandon McGill had 13 points and five rebounds.
