A six-week paving project on Ocean Street in South Portland, from Broadway to the Cape Elizabeth line, is scheduled to begin Wednesday, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

It’s a heavily traveled stretch of Route 77 where commuter traffic is often evident at intersections with Broadway, Highland Avenue and Sawyer Street.

Crews will start the project by making sidewalk improvements, followed by grinding street pavement, fixing catch basins and manholes, and putting down new pavement and road stripes.

The mile-long project will be done by Glidden Excavating & Paving of Gorham. It’s expected to cost $438,000 and be completed by the end of July.

Transportation officials urge motorists to use caution when driving through the work zone, where flaggers will direct alternating one-way traffic.
