Political experience

I do not like the term “Politician” as it often is used with a negative synonym. I feel that we need down to earth level headed representation in Augusta, career politicians have got us in a mess, not just on the state level but on the national front as well. I am for term limits and encourage every young individual to become involved, as a lot can be accomplished without any political experience.

Why are you running for office?

I am running for office to be the voice my hometown needs in Augusta. It has been a very long time since someone who was from Eliot went to Marshwood, has gone up to Augusta to represent us. I represent the younger generation that offers new ideas and solutions to problems that have been facing the state for decades. I do not propose to have all the answers but having an open mind and willingness to work with anyone, will get us a long way.

• Income Tax: Gov. LePage would like to lower Maine’s income tax rate and eventually eliminate it, by increasing the state’s sales tax and expanding it across a broader range of goods and services. Do you support this proposal?
  • Yes

    I support putting more of our hard earned dollars back into the pockets on the tax payers. This country flourished many years without a federal income tax as I think the individual spends their money more effectively for themselves than any government. However, taxes are important as they pay for infusrtucture, fire, police, and more as should it be. I take issue when tax dollars are spent out of state, or special projects. It is important to note that you can not tax your way to prosperity.

• Background Checks: Do you support background checks for privately sold firearms in Maine?
  • No

    Background checks are important. However this referendum would make thousands of law abiding Mainers criminals overnight.

• Minimum Wage: In light of the ballot question facing voters this fall, do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 to $12 an hour by 2020?

    Wages should be determined by the business owner. Let competition drive the markets and prices.

• Marijuana: Do you support legalization of marijuana for recreational use?
  • No
• Addiction/Overdoses: Do you believe the state is doing enough in response to the rise in heroin/opiate addiction and overdoses? If not, what else should be done?
  • I think there will always be more that can be done to help this problem. The legislature needs to work together to come up with bipartisan solutions that are effective. Rehab facilities, clinics, hotlines are all excellent and I think leads to a path of recovery. These overdoses are happening to my generation and I will do what ever I can do to help bring resolution to this problem by taking input from the public, local law enforcement, ems, and sitting representstives and affected. This is not a participant issue but a Mainer issue.
