As a voter from the political center, I shall welcome the introduction of ranked-choice voting. I believe it will induce both political parties to nominate more centrist candidates than they have in recent years.

The great problem with today’s nominating process is that it produces candidates with great appeal to their parties’ core voters: from the left for Democrats, from the right for Republicans. Neither has much appeal for the center.

However, under ranked-choice voting, both parties will have to attract votes from the center if they want to win. And to do so, they will have to nominate candidates who attract us moderates in the middle.
