I urge Maine’s small-business owners to vote Yes on 1. Regulating and taxing marijuana for adults is an opportunity to create a responsible new industry that will help agriculture, manufacturing and tourism and ripple through our economy.

Tourism growth in Colorado has outpaced the nation, and Colorado has one of the fastest-growing state economies in the country, according to recent rankings by the financial website 24/7 Wall Street.

Employers maintained existing drug testing policies, with no increase in marijuana-related workplace hazards, on-the-job injuries, workers compensation claims or fatal occupational injuries.

Under Question 1, each city and town in Maine will have the choice to allow or limit marijuana business in response to communities’ needs. This new industry is adding hundreds of good jobs each month in Colorado, and we can do the same in Maine by voting “yes” on Question 1.
