A long article that began on Page A1 of the May 4 paper, continuing to and ending on Page A5, was about ecomaine’s need for the public’s help in correcting “sloppy recycling,” which is costing ecomaine time and money in its total recycling effort.
Residential mixed paper was mentioned as the main culprit in sloppy recycling. There was a picture of bales of mixed paper being stored just outside ecomaine’s plant, waiting for weeks until a buyer appears.
The article includes a list of “Recyclables at a Glance,” stating what materials are among the items designated as paper. My hope was that the article would include a list of what sloppy residential mixed paper is comprised of, leading to public knowledge and assistance for ecomaine and the environment. Perhaps that list will be published sometime soon.
