Rev. Agustin Sebasthiyan

WELLS — Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland has appointed the Rev. Agustin Sebasthiyan as parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Parish effective July 1.

Holy Spirit Parish consists of St. Mary Church in Wells, St. Martha Church in Kennebunk and All Saints Church in Ogunquit.

Sebasthiyan, 36, is currently the parochial vicar of Parish of the Precious Blood in Maine; consisting of Holy Rosary Church in Caribou; Sacred Heart Church in Caribou; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Presque Isle; Our Lady of the Lake Church in Portage; St. Catherine Church in Washburn; St. Denis Church in Fort Fairfield; St. Joseph Church in Mars Hill; St. Louis Church in Limestone; St. Mark Church in Ashland; and St. Theresa Church in Stockholm.

He is a native of A. Kalathupatty, a town in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and earned bachelor’s degrees from Annamalai University and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, both located in Tamil Nadu. He completed his clerical studies at Heralds College in Poonamallee, India (2000 to 2002), St. John’s Major Seminary in Kurnool, India (2002 to 2006), and St. Don Bosco in Hyderabad, India (2006 to 2007).

Rev. Sebasthiyan was ordained to the priesthood on March 5, 2011, at the Heralds of Good News in Melavalady, India.

Since his ordination, he has served as an assistant parish priest in four Indian towns: Rayapeta and Ambattur (2011 to 2012), Christu Nagar (2012 to 2013), and Naduvalur (2013 to 2014).

In 2014, he was appointed principal of Divine Mercy School in the Diocese of Nalgonda, located in the province of Hyderabad, India, where he served until arriving in Maine in June 2017.
