The 23rd annual Maine Jewish Film Festival has been postponed until the fall. The festival was set to open March 28 in Portland and screen 40 films over the course of eight days in Bangor, Brunswick, Lewiston, Portland, Rockland and Waterville.

Sunday River, Sugarloaf and their sister ski resort in New Hampshire, Loon Mountain, all planned to close at the end of the day on Sunday “until further notice.”
Similarly, New Hermon Mountain in Central Maine announced that they would close on Sunday. Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, meanwhile, planned to close starting on Tuesday.

School officials in Old Orchard Beach announced Saturday that “Given the growing concern about the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus across the state of Maine and throughout our nation, we have determined that the best course of action is to close our schools for two weeks effective immediately.”
Lewiston schools are closed for at least the next 2 weeks.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu ordered all that state’s schools closed immediately on Sunday.

Maine Water, a company that provides drinking water to 32,000 customers across the state, is responding to coronavirus by closing its offices and suspending service shutoffs for non-payment of bills.

The DaPonte String Quartet said Friday that it has canceled the remainder of its scheduled concerts in March.

Ri Ra has canceled its Paddy’s Day Plunge, scheduled for Tuesday at the East End Beach in Portland. Donations will still go to the Portland Firefighters’ children’s Burn Fund, and the event may be rescheduled for later in the year. As of Friday, the Irish pub still planned to open on St. Patrick’s Day at 6 a.m. but at limited capacity.

The Portland Museum of Art, the Maine Historical Society, Portland Stage and Indigo Arts Alliance announced Friday in a joint statement, with the Children’s Museum, Portland Symphony Orchestra and Portland Ovations, that they are closing “until further notice.” Portland Stage said it has canceled public performances for 30 days, through April 13.

Portland Ovations has canceled the following shows: Miwa Matreyek at Westbrook Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Russian National Ballet on March 18 at Merrill Auditorium, Las Cafeteras at Port City Music Hall on March 19, The Snowy Day and Other Stories at Merrill Auditorium on March 29, Blue Man Group at Merrill Auditorium on March 31 and New York Philharmonic String Quartet at Hannaford Hall on April 5.

The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor has canceled Caribbean night on March 21, McPeake on March 27 and Hootenanny on April 4.

The Dance Hall in Kittery has canceled upcoming shows, is closing at least through April 15 and has postponed its Bootleggers Ball, which had been scheduled for April 4. Tickets will be refunded.

Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield is closing for two weeks and has canceled its shows through March 21. Hold onto tickets for rescheduled concerts or credit for another show, the concert venue said.

The American Heart Association’s Maine Go Red Luncheon, which was scheduled to be held on March 19 at Holiday Inn By The Bay in Portland, has been rescheduled to June 23.

Pineland Farms has canceled its Maine Maple Sunday event on March 22 and will refund tickets to the pancake breakfast in the next couple of days. The New Gloucester recreation center will remain open for normal business hours.

The Maine Jewish Film Festival, scheduled to take place March 28 through April 5 at movie theaters throughout the state, has been postponed until the fall.

The city of Portland has canceled its March 16 City Council meeting and March 23 workshop, and has suspended all committee and public meetings for a month, including those of the city’s planning Board, parks commission and land bank, to be rescheduled. The Maine Statehood Day Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Augusta Armory, has been postponed.

The Sara Hallie Richardson show, scheduled for Saturday at the Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine in Portland, has been postponed.

The South Portland Father-Daughter Dance, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed. The city’s recreation department said it hopes to reschedule the dance in early May.

Portland’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, which was scheduled to be held Sunday, has been canceled in reaction to the spread of coronavirus.
The Irish American Club of Maine, which organizes the parade, announced the cancellation Thursday morning. In an email, board member Bob Kearney wrote that the “decision was not taken lightly, but the Board believes it is the best course of action due to the current health situation.”
The parade was scheduled for noon Sunday on Commercial Street in Portland. (St. Patrick’s Day is on Tuesday.) More than 400 marchers were scheduled to participate, as well as floats, bands, vehicles and mascots. The free parade has drawn crowds of about 3,000 or more over the last couple of years.
An after-parade party scheduled for Sunday at the Maine Irish Heritage Center in Portland has also been canceled, said Vinny O’Malley of the heritage center.

The Postmodern Jukebox show, scheduled for Saturday at the State Theatre in Portland, has been postponed until the fall at the artist’s request.

The Maine Historical Society has postponed its members’ preview of its bicentennial exhibition, “State of Mind: Becoming Maine, scheduled for Thursday evening.

Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth has postponed the event Artists Sing Out For Life & Planet, a gathering of artists and writers to talk about the climate crisis scheduled for Saturday.

The NBA G League – which includes the Maine Red Claws – has suspended the 2019-20 season in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the league announced Thursday. The Red Claws had been scheduled to play eight more games in March, including four games in Portland.

Special Olympics Maine announced Wednesday that all sports, training and competition events were canceled through at least the end of March.

Both the Class A and Class B Maine Drama Festival contests and the New England Drama Festival have been canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus. The Class A Maine Drama Festival was scheduled for March 20 and 21 at Falmouth High School. The Class B state competition was scheduled for March 20 and 21 at Oceanside High School in Rockland.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra is canceling all concerts as well as select events through April 13, including the Maine Bicentennial concert scheduled for Sunday, the Queens of Soul POPS! concerts scheduled for March 21 and 22, and the Bravo, Britain concert on April 7. Ticket holders may exchange tickets for unaffected 2019-20 concerts, donate the price of their ticket to the PSO as a tax-deductible donation, or request a refund by May 18.
