PORTLAND — AARP Foundation Tax-Aide can offer only three sites in Greater Portland this year for free tax preparation because of the pandemic.

The free service for anyone, especially for those 50 and over and those who cannot afford to pay for tax preparation, will begin at the three sites Feb. 13. All sites will be by appointment only; appointments can be made now by calling 518-8579. Far fewer people will be served than in previous years, AARP said in a press release.

The program usually has 11 sites in the Greater Portland area, but some of those locations cannot provide adequate social distancing or are located at senior housing facilities, AARP said. In addition, a number of volunteers can’t participate this year because of coronavirus concerns.

Due to the IRS announced delay in processing tax returns, tax preparation at the three sites cannot begin until Feb. 13th, the press release said.
