Portland residents should pay close attention to the upcoming special municipal election on June 8. Here we will elect the remaining members of the city’s Charter Commission to join the three appointed by the City Council last year. This commission will play a critical role in determining how City Hall and elected officials work for the people of Portland.

It is important that this commission is filled with diverse community members dedicated to making Portland more inclusive, fair and equitable.

That is why I have endorsed a group of talented, passionate individuals to join the Charter Commission: Catherine Buxton, Nasreen Sheikh-Yousef, Patricia Washburn, Marpheen Chann and Ben Grant forCharter Commission at-large seats; Shay Stewart-Bouley for District 1, Zack Barowitz for District 3, Marques Houston for District 4 and Ryan Lizanecz for District 5.
