A 21-year-old Portland man has been identified as the driver who was killed when his car went off Washington Avenue near Tukey’s Bridge sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Portland police identified Sasa Strejcek as the victim on Thursday. The release of his name was delayed while authorities contacted his family members, who live out of state, department spokesman David Singer said.
Portland police said Strejcek’s vehicle appears to have left the road and hit trees in a median along Washington Avenue where it turns into the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 295.
The crash was not discovered until Wednesday morning. No other vehicles were involved.
Singer said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
