BRUNSWICK – Valerie E. Billings 88, died Tuesday February 15th, in Brunswick. She was born October 7, 1933 in Gillingham, England to Arthur D. and Winifred (Holland) Drummond.
On December 18, 1954, Valerie married Neil Billings, U.S.Army. The couple with their first son came to the US in May of 1956. After Neil re-enlisted in the military, the family consisting of yet another son moved to El Paso, Texas where three more sons were born. Following Neil’s retirement from the military, the family returned to Maine in 1961.
Following Neil’s death in 1982, Valerie worked as a telephone operator for C.M.M.C. Hospital in Lewiston and at Regional Memorial Hospital in Brunswick. Following retirement, she did voice recordings for Mid Coast Hospital departments. Valerie lived her life with grace and dignity even while raising five boys and caring for her husband with Multiple Sclerosis.
She leaves her five sons, Mark, Glenn, Darren, Kevin and Kerry, several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Private memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be with her husband Neil at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. To leave a note or share a memory, please visit www.brackettfh.com .
