A week ago Saturday while shopping in Portsmouth, N.H., I turned in to a local gas station to fill my tank before the oncoming storm.
I was approached by a complete stranger who reached into his wallet and gave me a gift card from Dunkin’ Donuts and thanked me for my military service (as marked on my auto license plate).
This random gesture of complete kindness caught me off guard, and I thanked him for his generous and uplifting thought.
As I sped away, I was pondering how I can magnify this simple, kind gesture and turn this into something big, bigger than us.
I spoke with my friend Ed (who is almost 86) and drove to the local Dunkin’ Donuts and dropped $50 in gift cards. I have yet to give any away, but will be beaming from ear to ear when doing so.
I was in the U.S. Army and am now employed by the U.S. Navy. I wish to send out a challenge to all of us veterans to match me, do something similar or “show me up” by making someone’s day as did this gentleman in his act of kindness.
The gauntlet is out and the message is clear: Stay the course and win the day!
