This year’s primaries, especially for legislative seats, are going to be critical in the composition of the Legislature in the coming two-year cycle. We must have effective lawmakers who can immediately begin the hard work of rebuilding our social safety net, which has been cut to pieces after eight long years of attacks. Having legislators who are able to grasp the issues and make intelligent decisions about what has to be done is going to be essential.

Being a member of the House I have had an opportunity to see Heather Sanborn work and I must say that I am very impressed. Three things have stood out in her presence in the House that I believe make her a great choice for the Senate.

First is the broad spectrum of interests that she has that helps her to understand the breadth of the issues that we are dealing with. This is not easy, given the many issues that we have to consider and address during a session.

Second is the depth of her understanding of the issues that are of greatest importance to her. These range all the way from solar power to the issues around the opioid crisis with which we have been struggling for these many years.

Finally, Heather has exhibited a great capacity to work with many of the other members to achieve what needs to be achieved. This is not just for the legislation on which she feels strongly but also to support other legislators in their efforts to do the right thing.

These are the reasons why I am supporting Heather for the District 28 Maine Senate seat in the Democratic primary June 12.
