The curtain fell on the 2009 outdoor track and field season Saturday in Burlington, Vt., where Forecaster Country runners, jumpers and throwers competed at the New England championships.
Greely’s Mark McCauley came in fifth in the boys’ 800 (1 minute, 55.83 seconds). Teammate James LePage came in 16th in the 800 (1:58.78). Greely’s Logan Price was 19th in the two-mile (9:45.96).
NYA’s Henry Sterling, of four-time Class C state champ North Yarmouth Academy, finished seventh in the mile (4:17.32). Teammate Sam Fear was 21st in the javelin (163-4).
Tom Winger, of Class B state champion Falmouth, placed sixth in the long jump (21 feet, 7 inches) and 13th in the triple jump (42-8.5). Teammate Will Wegener was 13th in the 400 (51.30 seconds). Alec Dunn came in 21st in the 110 hurdles (16 seconds). Kellen MacDonald was 24th in the 110 hurdles (16.18).
In the relays, Greely’s 3,200 team (LePage, Andy Fitch, Price and McCauley) was 12th (8:11.59).
Falmouth’s 1,600 team (MacDonald, Dunn, Wegener and Gabe Hoffman-Johnson) finished 16th (3:28.33). The Yachtsmen’s 400 squad (Tom Winger, Dunn, Michael Gardner and Hoffman-Johnson) placed 20th (44.87).
On the girls’ side, Greely’s Hannah Werneth led the way with a seventh-place showing in the shot put (37-11.25). Teammate Katherine Harrington placed 17th in the discus (100-2).
Yarmouth’s Haley Knaub was eighth in the javelin (128-0).
Falmouth’s Kate Sparks finished 17th in the shot put (33-11).
NYA’s Hannah Bewsey tied for 15th in the high jump (5 feet). Teammate Maeve Stier competed in that event, but didn’t score. NYA’s Alison Carpenter came in 30th in the 400 (1:03.87).
