Assistant Digital Editor

The Portland Press Herald seeks an outstanding, accomplished journalist to help run our website, edit our journalism and help us continue our digital transformation.

We are an ambitious news organization with high standards and a talented staff, and we need a superb journalist to join our team. The editor hired for this position will post staff stories, select and post wire news, write headlines, help determine the presentation of journalism on our website, handle social media, write newsletters, conceive digital-only content, and find other ways to engage our readers and subscribers.

Our editors are more than grammar sticklers. They prosecute stories, looking for holes and structural problems. They pay close attention to how our journalism is rendered digitally and improve its presentation without being asked. They suggest and execute interactives, multimedia and social media strategies. They help us envision how to up our digital game and be relevant both to subscribers and to people who don’t yet have a relationship with us.

If you are the best at what you do and share our passion for ambitious journalism, this is a great opportunity. You will be part of Maine’s finest and largest newsgathering operation, and you’ll live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life. A minimum of five years of daily news experience is required.

We offer:

  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Short/Long Term Disability & Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k with company match

We are an EEO employer.
