City Editor – Morning Sentinel
The Morning Sentinel newspaper seeks an accomplished city editor to direct the newsroom for the Waterville area’s daily newspaper. Waterville is an up-and-coming city in the heart of central Maine that is experiencing a downtown renaissance with multimillion-dollar investments in economic development and the arts/culture, while surrounding communities offer an array of outdoors and recreation attractions.
City editor qualifications must include daily newspaper experience in a supervisory capacity and the ability to plan for and shape compelling community journalism with a team of reporters and photographers.
The job also requires excellent writing and editing skills with a proven ability to work with reporters on story development and completion, holding staff to high standards while treating them with respect and professionalism. The city editor will help the newsroom produce watchdog and enterprise stories and projects; treat breaking news and web updates with urgency; and look for ways to tell stories with digital elements such as video, slideshows and databases. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with other editors, making local stories appealing to both a regional and state audience.
