Production Manager – Second Shift
The Portland Press Herald is seeking a second shift Production Manager to oversee our busy production department. The Production Manager is responsible for the nightly workflow of the distribution department and pressroom – ensuring a smooth and timely transition of our products from the pressroom to the loading dock. This position typically works Monday through Friday from 4 pm – 12:30 am (or later as needed). This may include occasional weekends as needed.
Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing the nightly workflow of product to ensure deadlines are met and product is delivered on time
- Communication between the pressroom, advertising and circulation departments
- Administer necessary paperwork, including postal forms, worksheets, press orders and driver manifests
- Managing a diverse group of employees – including hiring, scheduling, payroll, and performance management
- Safety training and onboarding
- Work with the VP of Production to establish work procedures and quality standards
Our Ideal candidate has:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate across multiple departments and levels
- Keen attention to detail and time management
- Previous management experience in a production setting
- Strong people skills and the ability to manage and develop people in a multi-cultural environment
- Mechanical knowledge
- Experience with offset printing press
- Knowledge and experience in the newspaper industry preferred
- Experience managing in a union environment a plus
