Colors fall with the rain at South Portland’s 5K Color Run
People, covered in color dust, cheer during the entertainment portion after the 5K Color Run near Bug Light in South Portland Sunday. Founded in 2011, the event was created to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5k on the Planet.” Carl D. Walsh/Staff Photographer
Climate change is causing peak foliage to arrive more than a week later than it did in the 1950s, but other factors that shape the timing and brilliance of the change of colors have also increased seasonal unpredictability.
