Surveyors spotted the entangled right whale again in January 2023, this time in Cape Cod Bay. The team made several attempts to remove the ropes constricting the whale's tail and flukes but could not free the animal. It was the last attempted disentanglement before the whale washed up dead on the coast of Martha's Vineyard one year later.
