SOUTH PORTLAND — Foulmouthed Brewing is on track for a spring opening after the Planning Board approved the site plan for what is expected to be the city’s newest brewpub.

Julia and Craig Dilger of Portland plan to open the brewpub in a former auto repair shop at 15 Ocean St., in the waterfront Knightville neighborhood.

The Planning Board voted 6-0 Wednesday to approve the Dilgers’ plans for the restaurant and brewery, which will require significant interior and exterior renovations, said spokeswoman Kelsey Goldsmith.

The brewpub’s name is based on Falmouth, which was Greater Portland’s name from 1658 through the Revolutionary War. It also tips a hat to the region’s seafaring heritage and the salty language that sailors and fishermen used.

The Dilgers plan to serve gourmet comfort food along with classic and adventurous craft beers, Goldsmith said.

Foulmouthed is the second craft brewery planned in South Portland. The Fore River Brewing Co., which will have a beer tasting room, is expected to open soon on Huntress Avenue.

Julia Dilger is a former Peaks Island schoolteacher, and Craig Dilger is a professional photographer and avid homebrewer. The couple, both 32, have a year-old daughter, Matilda.
