A 17-year-old Cape Elizabeth boy injured in a car crash was listed in critical condition Sunday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Cole Amorello, 17, was involved in a single-car accident shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday on Old Ocean House Road.

Cape Elizabeth High School was open for the second day Sunday to allow students who wanted support to meet.

Cape Elizabeth Police Chief Neil Williams said speed appeared to have been a factor in the crash. It is not known yet whether alcohol was involved, Williams said Sunday afternoon.

Police said Amorello was driving toward town when his 2006 BMW sedan failed to make a curve and crashed into some trees. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Williams said.
