LEBANON  — A child was injured Friday afternoon when his bicycle collided with a dump truck.

Authorities responded to Center Road, near the Carl Broggi Highway shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday. The small dump truck was traveling north on Center Road when the 5-year-old boy riding his bicycle collided with the vehicle, Assistant Chief Jason Cole said.

Family had removed the boy from the road before authorities arrived, Cole said. He said the boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was transported him to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire with non-life threatening injuries.

Rescue crews were on scene for an hour and the road was shut down to one lane during that time. Cole said the bicycle was destroyed in the accident.

Maine State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
