Scott Romney, a Michigan attorney and brother of GOP nominee Mitt Romney, told the dinner crowd at the Maine Republican State Convention Saturday that following a long nominating process, Republicans are energized.

“Now is the time to unite so we can come together to defeat one of the most failed presidencies in our history,” he said.

Romney got a warm reception from the crowd, which was far smaller than the estimated 3,000 people who attended the convention earlier in the day. He spoke for just over 10 minutes, telling a few personal anecdotes about his brother and encouraging support for him in the fall election.

He described his brother as someone who fixes things – the Olympics, several companies and the state of Massachusetts.

“You will never be embarrassed by anything you hear about Mitt or Ann Romney.” he said. “They are people of quality.”

The convention wrapped up for the day a little after 9 p.m. and is scheduled to resume in the morning at 9:30. Sunday's schedule includes the announcement of delegates, speeches by the six candidates for the U.S. Senate, an address by Gov. Paul LePage and a speech by retiring U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe.
