FALMOUTH — The driver of a pickup truck nearly ran over a police officer during a low-speed chase Sunday afternoon through Falmouth, Yarmouth and North Yarmouth.

Sgt. Frank Soule of the Falmouth Police Department said the chase began around 3:45 p.m. when an officer tried to pull over 55-year-old Daniel Stasulis of California on Middle Road for allegedly exceeding the speed limit.

Soule said Stasulis took off in his 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck, reaching speeds of between 25 and 50 miles per hour.

He said Stasulis veered toward Sgt. Dan Gallant of the Yarmouth Police Department after trying to avoid a spiked mat. Gallant, who was on foot, was able to avoid being hit.

More spiked mats were laid down, which blew out a couple of tires on the truck. Stasulis was arrested in front of the North Yarmouth Fire Station about 15 minutes after the chase began. He faces charges of aggravated reckless conduct, eluding police, speeding, and failure to stop at a red light. He was being held Sunday night at the Cumberland County Jail.
