I am a Democrat who grew up in a Republican part of Maine. The Republicans I grew up with were thoughtful, reflective and tolerant. Our governor is an embarrassment to Republican ethics and values.

Democrat Mike Michaud reflects Maine values of integrity and honesty. However, I believe he doesn’t demonstrate the courage to say who you are and where you stand.

We need a leader who can offer thoughtful solutions that are based on good information, not party politics.

Independent Eliot Cutler has the experience to lead Maine in a global economy. Despite its independent tradition, Maine is an integral part of a global community.

When I read Eliot’s policy papers, I understand he isn’t offering “political speak” – he’s offering solutions to real Maine problems. He has the courage to run without the support of a political party.

It is time for Maine to vote its independence from party politics.
