AUGUSTA — A Maine state senator and a sailing cruise company want to change state law to allow certain kinds of ships to serve alcohol to passengers.

Sen. Dave Miramant, a Camden Democrat, wants to create a new category of liquor license for ships, boats and vessels that are registered for overnight passengers.

The owners of Windjammer Angelique, a Camden sailing ship, requested the law change. The owners of the ship say they are not allowed to serve alcohol unless they pay to have a licensed caterer on board.

Legislative leaders say the bill will be drafted and scheduled for a public hearing.
