PORTLAND — Roger Omer Dion passed away Jan. 16, 2017, with his family by his side.

He was born March 11, 1931, in Central Falls, Rhose Island to Wilfred and Yvonne (Roux) Dion.

Roger attended Central Falls, Rhode Island, schools before becoming a brick mason for over 30 years and then a foreman for the Biddeford Public Works Department for over 20 years. He retired in 1995.

Roger married Bernadette “Bernie” Nolette on Feb. 3, 1951, at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford. He was a very gentle and easy-going person who cared for and was kind to everyone he met, as well as a supportive and loving father and husband. Roger loved to spend time with his family and his winters in Florida.

He enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, camping and playing bingo. He also was a sports fanatic, especially when it came to the Red Sox and Patriots.

Roger was preceded in death b: his parents, Wilfred and Yvonne Dion, and brother, Lucien Dion.

He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Bernie Dion of Old Orchard Beach; daughter, Sandra Paynter and her husband, Dennis, of Old Orchard Beach; a son, Steven Dion and his wife, Sylvia, of Windham; a sister, Doris Boudreau of South Portland; a grandson, Adam Fleming and his wife, Sabrina, of Biddeford; a great-grandson, Caleb Fleming of Biddeford; and a nephew, Richard Champagne and his wife, Terry, of South Portland.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at the Barron Center, 1145 Brighton Ave., Portland, ME 04102.

The family would like to thank the Barron Center. For nearly 12 years, the caretakers and residents provided care, companionship, and kindness to Roger, and he enjoyed spending his time here – going on trips, listening to live music, and spending time with his special friends Joe and Mikey.
