BANGOR — Years of training and precise timing nearly paid off in a Guinness World Record last week.

Guests at Bangor’s annual Chamber of Commerce dinner last week cracked open 1,122 cans of beer and soda at the same time as they attempted to beat a record set in Japan in 2016. The record of 1,149 cans being opened simultaneously still stands.

“We were able to celebrate our craft, and the community that supports us, on a cold January night in Bangor, Maine. We call that a win,” brewery co-owner Andrew Geaghan said in a news release. The release hinted that the city might make another attempt at the can-cracking record.

As they say, practice makes perfect.
