I write to commend the Portland City Council for listening thoughtfully to both the Portland Museum of Art and Greater Portland Landmarks and making a decision based on what it believes is in the best long-term interest of Portland.
The PMA and GPL made compelling arguments for their positions, and neither deserves to be vilified for their vision of what is best for Portland’s future. Personally, I am not overly fond of the existing building or the proposed building, but I hope we can all respect the process that was gone through and the outcome. We can’t expect others to graciously accept an outcome if we won’t do so ourselves.
