After watching the Cape Elizabeth Town Council during the past several years, I have come to admire the ability of Martha “Molly” MacAuslan, council chairman, to bring people together to make progress. She has the rare ability to listen to disparate views and find common ground and solutions to difficult problems.
She is running as an independent for the Maine Senate to represent South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. Her respectful listening ability and capacity for problem-solving are sorely needed.
In our Legislature, each party frequently holds meetings with the senators of their respective parties, and leadership tells them how they want them to vote on an issue. Molly MacAuslan will not be required to consider the party line when determining where she stands on an issue.
She is free to listen to all her constituents and find the best way to move toward a solution. It will help bridge the partisan divide in Augusta.
