I was a tenant for many years in Portland and know what it feels like to live with barking dogs, in no-dog buildings, and feel powerless in my rented home.
As a tenant, I relied on my landlord to respect my lease and take care of nuisance tenants. As a landlord, I make that promise to those who rent from me.
Question 1 takes this power away from landlords. Problem tenants are given months to stay on as others in the building suffer.
We all know that there is a shortage of affordable housing in Portland, but this ordinance doesn’t address it.
I am encouraging Portland residents to vote “no” on Question 1 on the city ballot Nov. 7.
