FALMOUTH — The public is invited to an open house at River Point Conservation Area from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8.
Hosted by the town’s Conservation Commission, the event will offer guided tours of portions of the 41-acre property, which is bordered by the Presumpscot and Piscataqua rivers on three sides and railroad tracks along the fourth.
American Indians camped on the property for thousands of years. In 1775, the Hobbs family farmed it and operated a brickyard and shingle mill.
The Falmouth Conservation Corps has created nearly two miles of trails on the property. A bridge over the West Branch of the Piscataquis connects to a trail that ends at the high school.
Parking for the open house is available in the Hannaford supermarket lot at Falmouth Crossing on Route 1. Access to the property is across the wooden railroad bridge.
