Sports Clerk – Part Time

The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram seeks a part-time sports clerk to gather sports information and produce capsules and other material for the sports section.

This position is ideal for someone who is looking to get a start in sports journalism. Knowledge of sports, especially local school sports is ideal.

Responsibilities Include:

• Taking game scores and statistics by phone and email from coaches and other sources.
• Compiling capsules for game roundups.
• Responsible for going through the stream of sports emails that come in and passing them along as appropriate.
• Rewriting material from press releases and preparing capsules

Requirements:

• Weekend and evening availability
• Access to a computer and high-speed reliable internet
• Knowledge of sports – particularly local Maine high school and college sports
• Clear and precise writing skills with strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines
