Another round of freezing rain, high winds in store for Wednesday

The question isn’t whether there will be power outages; it’s how many.

The National Weather Service says there is a ‘significant threat for power outages’ along the coast and just inland.

For the most part, downhill resorts can use manmade snow to counter natural shortcomings. But not all slopes have the equipment.

An overnight storm could bring between 1 and 3 inches of snow to some parts of Maine, and is likely to impact commutes Tuesday morning.

But sun and temperatures in the mid-40s were forecast to melt much of the 1-3 inches that accumulated across southern Maine early Sunday.

The National Weather Service is predicting a small storm Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The rain and snow are expected to taper off throughout the morning.

The announcement of the 11 a.m. opening came ahead of a storm that could bring snow, sleet and ice to the state’s roads overnight into Thursday.

The city is expected to get scattered snowstorms beginning Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service says.

The areas hardest hit included Somerset, Kennebec and Androscoggin counties. By Sunday, all but a small handful of customers were without power.
